Bound By Blood coverThe new edition of Bound By Blood is finally on release today.

Bound By Blood was the first of The Dracula Chronicles to be released in December 2012, even though it is Book #6 in the series. It is the first book in the second five-book arc, Bound By Blood, and the book that introduces Dracula the vampire.

I was never fully satisfied with the original and felt I had rushed its release somewhat. So, after another re-write, I sent it away for fresh edits and by the time I had completed the 10th draft of the book, I felt it was polished enough to release anew. This new edition comes complete with a new cover and a new book trailer.

Now that the Vlad Dracula arc is up and running with Books #1 and #2 For Whom The Bell Tolls and The Path To Decay, I have turned my focus back to the Bound By Blood arc, the part of the story where I introduced Dracula the vampire in Book #6. For the last six months, Bound By Blood has undergone re-writes and has been sent to the USA for fresh edits, and now a final re-write. Bound By Blood will be released anew on July 18th and what was previously Bound By Blood – Volume 2, will appear in October/November after a complete overhaul as The Headless Cross.

Today, I want to share with you the fantastic new trailer for Bound By Blood. I hope it is to your liking.

Author 1EXPERIENCE THE ULTIMATE BATTLE OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL.THE BATTLE FOR SOULS HAS BEGUN.

The Dracula Chronicles is a new and exciting series adding a fresh dimension to the Dracula legend, which combines the real historical Vlad Dracula with a new and different version of Dracula the vampire. The series has been released in two arcs, one that follows Dracula the man and the other following Dracula the vampire. It is written in a style that is both literary and cinematic, that places you there in the thick of the action always.

The books are historical novels of Gothic horror; religious corruption; political intrigue; tragedy; war; dark paranormal fantasy; and deep romance. The premise is built around Creation and the divide in Heaven that results from Lucifer’s jealousy of the creation of man. This leads to the First Great War of the Angels and Lucifer’s eventual expulsion from Heaven with all those who sided with him. The annihilation of the angels continues, but rather than destroy Lucifer, God agrees to a truce. By its terms, Lucifer can contest the soul of every living being as long as he does not interfere with their free will. Should he control more souls than God at any time, he can ascend again to Heaven and cast God and the angels out. He would then have a free hand to destroy all mankind.

Lucifer turns man against God with ease. God responds by sending his prophets one after another to bring man back to the path of righteousness. It seems to be merely delaying the inevitable and in one last effort to thwart Lucifer, God sends his son made man. In giving his life on the Cross, Jesus wipes away man’s sins. This leaves Lucifer back to where he was at the beginning and means he has to start again. The Catholic Church is born on that fateful day in Jerusalem as Christ’s church on the earth. Lucifer then believes if he can destroy this great icon of God, he can turn man against God once more. He searches for over a millennium for the one who can lead his assault on God. The Crusades give him renewed hope, and he is sure the conflict between Christian and Moslem will provide the one he seeks. When this does not materialise, he turns his attention to the Balkan region where this conflict is renewed with Ottoman expansion into eastern Europe. He finally identifies the second son of Vlad Dracul as the one he can manipulate into achieving his ends. God has prepared for this event, and in the very moment that Vlad Dracula draws his first breath, so does another child sired by Dracul, though born to a gypsy woman. This child, Andrei, is blessed by the angels and bestowed with great powers as a balance to the evil about to be unleashed upon the world.

There’s a new interview on The Avid Reader blog. You’ll have to scroll down a bit, it appears after the excerpt of Chapter 1 from Bound by Blood.

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Shane KP O’Neill: At a very early age. It is what I have always wanted to do.

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Shane KP O’Neill: When I was 6 years old my mother bought me a set of encyclopaedias for Christmas. I read them all within a couple of months. That is my first memory of reading a whole book, and there were 20 or so of those.

Due to a lack of time I will be posting an excerpt from Bound By Blood – Volume 1 on my blog today.  Dracula has just suffered his mortal death at the hands of Lucifer and made the transition from human to vampire.  Now he turns his attention to his people outside where they are praying for him.

You can download more excerpts from Bound by Blood here.

1476 – CHAPTER ONE

Wallachia.  December 1476.  The chapel at Snagov.

Dracula pulled open the door of the chapel.  Relishing his new found strength he ripped it clean off its hinges. He strode out into the night.  All eyes fell on him.  He glared at his people with real menace. They were on their knees in the cold and the rain praying for the repose of his soul.

He laughed at the irony of it. The heady aroma of blood filled his nostrils. The blood of his people. It almost overwhelmed him. He felt the vibration of it in the ground beneath his feet as it pumped through their veins.

The smell of the blood of the dead reached him too. It was a repugnant scent. He realised then that only the blood of the living could satisfy his thirst. That was the price of immortal life. Lucifer warned him if he did not drink he would die. In taking Gabrul he realised that to drink he would have to kill.

With Bound By Blood finally coming out this weekend past, I felt it a fitting time to express my thoughts and feelings on the book, as it is now and while writing it.  Owing to its size I have had to split it into two volumes, but both are available as I write, so the wait is over.

I had so much fun writing this book.  I wrote the first chapters back in November 1992, but didn’t touch it again until September 2006.  With a complete re-write of the original and an extra seventy chapters of the new, Bound By Blood, is a finished product at last.

On December 2nd I was interviewed by Books Direct about Bound By Blood

What sparked the idea for this book?
I have had a long-standing love affair with Dracula and have always wanted to create something new with him.  Dracula is one of the best-known names in the modern culture of the western world, but despite this I have wanted to take him one step further.  The idea for my series has been with me a very long time and evolved as I wrote.  I wanted to write about Dracula the man and Dracula the vampire and built a premise where I could accommodate the two.
