A selection of interviews with Shane O’Neill himself

Interview on The Avid Reader blog

There’s a new interview on The Avid Reader blog. You’ll have to scroll down a bit, it appears after the excerpt of Chapter 1 from Bound by Blood.

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Shane KP O’Neill: At a very early age. It is what I have always wanted to do.

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Shane KP O’Neill: When I was 6 years old my mother bought me a set of encyclopaedias for Christmas. I read them all within a couple of months. That is my first memory of reading a whole book, and there were 20 or so of those.

Interview on Dorothy Dreyer’s We Do Write Blog

Dorothy Dreyer of We Do Write interviews Dracula Chronicles uthor Shane KP O Neill.

How did the idea of the story come to you?

I have always wanted to write a book or series about Dracula, but I wanted to write about the real Dracula as well as the mythical one. To achieve this successfully I knew I would have to do something new and different to what has gone before. The first book I wrote, Reckoning Day, is now #6 in the series. Originally, in that story, I would go back in time after every third chapter to the 15th Century and Dracula the vampire. Then I decided to include the real historical Dracula in my concept and the series evolved from there as more book became necessary to fit in with my concept.

Interview on Mad About Books

There’s a new interview over on Mad About Books Facebook page.

Tell us about your books..

My books are The Dracula Chronicles. They are quite epic in scope and in all, the series will come in 8 Chronicles, which will amount to well over a dozen books, with a few prequels thrown in too. I have just released Chronicle 3 Bound By Blood to give my readers the vampire first, but had to split it into two volumes because the book was far too big for just one.

Books Direct Interview about Bound By Blood

On December 2nd I was interviewed by Books Direct about Bound By Blood

What sparked the idea for this book?
I have had a long-standing love affair with Dracula and have always wanted to create something new with him.  Dracula is one of the best-known names in the modern culture of the western world, but despite this I have wanted to take him one step further.  The idea for my series has been with me a very long time and evolved as I wrote.  I wanted to write about Dracula the man and Dracula the vampire and built a premise where I could accommodate the two.

Lindsay Avalon Interview with Shane KP O’Neill

On November 29th, I was interviewed by Lindsay Avalon, author of the paranormal romance novel Breaking the Nexus.

What has been the hardest scene for you to write?

I am not really sure if there was an actual scene that was difficult to write. The hardest part probably of writing a novel that is an historical adventure is actually incorporating historical narrative without sending the reader to sleep. For me, no historical content is boring, but that may not be true for everyone. Sometimes I can use dialogue to deliver this, but it is not always possible to do so and on occasion narrative cannot be avoided. This is what I find hardest to write in my books.
